TAPE QUALITY RATINGS

Tape quality refers to the viewing quality of a tape, not its content.

Letter Value Word Value Description of Rating
A+ Perfect Absolutley perfect.
A Excellent Near A+ quality with minimal poor spots.
A- Near Excellent Maybe a few poor spots but nothing affecting the watchabililty of the video.
B+ Very Good Has periodic lines or fuzziness at times but video is watchable.
B Good Video looks older due to fuzziness, not unlike a video of a sporting event from the early 80's.
B- Near Good Fuzziness is noticeable throughout the video.
C Poor Best viewed on a VCR with auto tracking. This eliminates most of the choppiness but problems are still evident.
D Very Poor Must be viewed on a VCR with auto tracking, even then quality is poor.
COMP N/A All compilation videos have lines and in some cases blue screens between clips and do not follow the above standards.

Things to remember:

1- You will not find any A+ videos on my site or anyone elses, not matter what anybody says. It is almost impossible to copy a video cassette perfectly.

2- I always underestimate the quality of my tapes. That is, if I say B+ it is certainly not a B, but may be an A-.

3- Japanese tapes are never rated higher than a B+ on my site, no matter how good they are. Most Japanese videos are taped from Japanese TV and then taped again before I get my hands on them, so I never rate them as excellent, even if they fit the criteria.

4- I rate all of these tapes on my VCR, which has auto tracking and is a 4 head. Keep this in mind if your VCR is 5+ years old, quality may be different (I'm not sure, just being honest).

5- In my opinion, any tape that is B- or higher is fine to watch. If you have ever seen a tape of Team Canada vs USSR in the 1972 summit series, or any other sporting video from 20 years ago, this is the kind of quality that you can expect from Japanese videos. Watchable, but not high resolution.

6- If you get a video and you feel that the quality is worse than what I said it was, I will replace it for the SAME VIDEO ONLY. If you do not think that this is fair, then I'm sorry. I check every tape that I send out to make sure that the quality is OK and use only high quality video cassettes. If you have any questions about this policy, let me know before you order anything so that there is no confusion.
